God Didn’t Torture His Son—He Became the Sacrifice: The Truth About the Cross

God Didn’t Torture His Son—He Became the Sacrifice: The Truth About the Cross:

“Elohim was in Messiah, reconciling the world to Himself…”
2 Corinthians 5:19 (ISR2009)

There’s a theology that turns Yahweh into something He never was—
a detached tyrant,
a cold judge,
a Father who needed blood to feel better.

It says He sat in Heaven while His Son screamed on earth.
It says He turned His back.
It says He took pleasure in watching Him die.

But let’s be honest:

The Way It’s Often Preached—Isn’t the Gospel

How can we trust a God who tortures His own child?
How do we believe in love when the Father is portrayed as heartless,
sitting in Heaven while His Son cries out in agony?

Worse—He separated Himself while doing it.
Worse—He took pleasure in it.

Let’s say it plainly:

If that’s your gospel, you serve a sadist devil, not Yahweh.

This twisted version of the crucifixion has caused many to walk away.
They may not say it out loud,
but in their hearts they wonder:

“If He did that to His Son, what might He do to me?”
“If He abandoned His own child in His worst moment, how can I trust Him to stay with me in mine?”

And that doubt seeps like poison into their faith.

But the truth?
The real Gospel?

Yahweh wasn’t the abuser.

He was the One being pierced.

Yahweh Was On the Cross

“Elohim was in Messiah, reconciling the world to Himself…”
2 Corinthians 5:19

He didn’t send someone else to suffer.
He didn’t demand a payment from another.

He put on flesh,
stepped into death,
and took the curse upon Himself.

Elohim was in Messiah, reconciling the world to Himself…
— 2 Corinthians 5:19

The pain Yahushua endured wasn’t inflicted from a distance.
It was the God of Glory stepping into our ruin,
absorbing our brokenness into His own body.

“It Pleased YHWH to Crush Him” — What Does That Actually Mean?

“But it pleased YHWH to crush Him, He laid sickness on Him…”
Isaiah 53:10 (ISR2009)

This verse doesn’t mean Yahweh took joy in pain.
The Hebrew word chaphets (חָפֵץ) means:

  • To will

  • To purpose

  • To desire an outcome

He was not pleased in the crushing.
He was pleased in the fruit that would come from it
redemption,
healing,
children brought back from death.

You and me reunited to the Father.

But it pleased YHWH to crush Him, He laid sickness on Him…
— Isaiah 53:10

The Cross Was Not Divine Abandonment—It Was Divine Unity

“I and the Father are one.”
— John 10:30

When Yahushua cried, “My El, My El, why have You forsaken Me?”
He wasn’t declaring separation.
He was quoting Psalm 22—a prophecy that begins in sorrow
but ends in rescue, vindication, and praise.

He was announcing the fulfillment of Scripture in real time.

I and the Father are one.
— John 10:30

Because Yahweh didn’t leave Him.

He was in Him.
Reconciling the world to Himself.
Taking the sword into His own side.

He Took the Judgment—Not Out of Wrath, But Out of Love

“He was pierced for our transgressions, crushed for our crookednesses.
The chastisement for our peace was upon Him, and by His stripes we are healed.”

Isaiah 53:5

Yes, there was judgment.
Yes, there was pain.
But it was chosen, not demanded.
Offered, not inflicted.

He was pierced for our transgressions, crushed for our crookednesses. The chastisement for our peace was upon Him, and by His stripes we are healed.
— Isaiah 53:5

Yahushua wasn’t a victim.
He was the Lamb and the Shepherd.
The Priest and the Offering.
The Creator dying for His creation.

So Why Does This Matter?

Because if you believe in a God who tortures,
you’ll fear Him but never trust Him.
You’ll obey Him, but never love Him.
You’ll hide when you’re broken instead of running to His arms.

But when you see Him rightly—
bleeding with you, not just for you,
never abandoning you, but bearing the pain with you
then you can finally fall in love with the true Yahweh.

G – Grounded in Scripture

  • 2 Corinthians 5:19

  • Isaiah 53:5–10

  • John 10:17–18

  • Hebrews 2:14

  • Psalm 22

What do these verses reveal about the unity between the Father and Son?

R – Reflect on Context

  • Have you believed the lie that Yahweh is cruel or distant?

  • Has this false gospel caused fear or distrust in your relationship with Him?

  • Ask the Holy Spirit to reveal any areas that need to be explored to strengthen your relationship with God.

A – Apply to Your Life

  • Ask the Ruach (Spirit) to wash your understanding clean.

  • Begin rewriting your view of the cross with the truth: Love was hanging there; Love was on the cross, not wrath, not hate, but Yahweh’s Love and desire to be reunited with us in Truth.

C – Commune with God

Yahweh, I repent for every time I believed You were angry at me.
I’ve lived under fear because I didn’t know You rightly.
But You didn’t punish someone else for my sin—You came Yourself.
You carried me. You bled for me. You took on everything You knew I could never handle: it was Your Love that poured out on the cross—You don’t know darkness; darkness is not in You! And now I trust You with my life. Thank You for letting me see.

E – Exalt God

I worship You, not as a cruel judge, but as the Wounded Healer.
You never abandoned Your Son—and You will never abandon me.
You are not distant. You are present.
You are not harsh. You are holy.
And I give You praise for the love that let nails go through Your own hands.

Declaration: I Was Not Forsaken—Because He Never Left

I declare that Yahweh was not the tormentor—He was the offering.
I do not serve a sadist.
I serve the One who was pierced.
He did not pour out wrath on someone else—He bore it in Himself.
He will never abandon me, because He never abandoned Yahushua.
I walk in that truth. I live in that love. I worship in freedom.
In Yahushua’s Name, Amen.
