A Prayer for Discernment
A Prayer
Introduction:
A prayer for discernment: asking for clarity to distinguish the voice of God, the Holy Spirit, and Jesus, from any outside (evil) influence:
Heavenly Father,
I come before You with a humble heart, seeking Your wisdom and discernment. Your Word tells me that You give freely to those who ask, so I ask You now for the ability to clearly discern Your voice and the leading of Your Holy Spirit.
James 1:5 states, "If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach, and it will be given to him."
Lord, I know that Your voice is one of peace and truth, and that the enemy comes only to steal, kill, and destroy. I pray that You help me recognize the difference between Your voice and any deceptive influences. May my heart always be tuned to Your will and may I not be led astray by confusion or fear.
John 10:27 – "My sheep listen to my voice; I know them, and they follow me."
1 John 4:1 – "Dear friends, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits to see whether they are from God, because many false prophets have gone out into the world."
Holy Spirit, I ask that You guide me in all truth. Help me to discern the spirits, so I can recognize Your presence and leadings. Give me the spiritual sensitivity to reject anything that is not from You and the strength to follow Your path, even in moments of uncertainty.
As Paul writes in 1 Corinthians 2:10-12,
"These are the things God has revealed to us by his Spirit. The Spirit searches all things, even the deep things of God. For who knows a person's thoughts except their own spirit within them? In the same way no one knows the thoughts of God except the Spirit of God. What we have received is not the spirit of the world, but the Spirit who is from God, so that we may understand what God has freely given us."
Father, I pray for clarity and wisdom in every decision and situation. Help me test all thoughts, words, and promptings to see if they align with Your truth. May I always hold fast to Your Word as the foundation of my discernment, and may Your peace guard my heart and mind from any deception, so,
"the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus,” Philippians 4:7
In all things, may it be Your will be done in my life, and may I always seek to walk in the light of Your truth, rejecting any and all darkness that seeks to lead me astray, for
"Your word is a lamp for my feet, a light on my path," Psalm 119:105
